Chris Trapper, formerly of The Push Stars, has a new EP out this week which is available as a "Pay What You Want" download. Chris Trapper is also known for singing the theme song to the 2006 television show "Pepper Dennis". The EP is called "Into The Bright Lights" and has a pop/rock format. Trapper is known for blending folk, pop, and rock sounds with his solo work, and most of his past work is a lot like Josh Ritter, but this album is a collaboration with producer Jason Meeker, which makes it sound on some tracks like he's being backed by a band, with more drums than prior releases. This makes the album more uptempo on those tracks. "Already Gone" sounds a little like something the Gin Blossoms would record. "Black Eye Blue" has the folk/soft rock sound that Trapper is best known for, and is the best bet for a radio single. "The Game Is Done" is another potential hit, since it is reminiscent of Melissa Etheridge's signature sound. Overall the EP is in some ways more commercial than some of Trapper's past work, but it retains enough of his preexisting sound to be a good introduction to Trapper's music for those who are unfamiliar with his music.
